WebMar 9, 2009 · One of my cichlids (electric yellow)has been swimming near the top of the tank next to the heater. He will stay there until startled, swim around fine for awhile than return to the same spot. His eating habits are the same and this is the first day that I noticed this behavior. There are no visable signs of parasites or any other diseases. WebIt could be enjoying them as part of a nesting instinct. Gouramis also stake a claim in the tank. If you don't have plants or ornaments that haven't already been claimed by other fish, maybe the gourami has taken the heater. Omg that hilarious.

Tank circulation should eliminate most fo the cold-spots, but there is always areas of temperature variations. My tank reads 83-84 at the opposite end, and 88-89 near the heater FYI.
